Mark, some career paths have dried up, perhaps not completely, but most effectively. People who have worked in financial management for many years are finding that the opportunities are much more limiting, the chances for advancement virtually non-existent. In many cases, these are temporary bumps in the road which may last a few months to several years. Unfortunately, few people can withstand a prolonged delay and will need to find ways to recharge their careers. In some cases that will mean going back to school to take classes, which could lead to a change in career.

I appreciate the articles and the comments made. But the most important thing I want to point out here is to “know yourself”…….it’s essential to know your distinctiveness and your ability to prove no matter whatever the market condition is in terms of jobs and economy. I want all those who have read this article and commented on it to answer whether economy can actually affect the progress of a career. I believe it cannot. The main reason is that when you perfectly know yourself and sure of what you are. You can always make out your way in the clutter no matter how much downsizing is there. Every human being has some quality which is always better than the others. Would want all of you participate

In the current economic situation, it is hard to get a job you want. Sometimes it is wiser to hand it over to an employment agency to help you find the ideal employer that suits you. All of my experiences with them are successful so far. I think that everyone who is looking for a job can consider approaching an employment agency.

Good stuff, Kate! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure that recent grads will benefit from this particular Facebook feature which, on review, provides a wealth of useful information. I appreciate the link to the Monster site too.

The present economy defnitely makes a job search extra tough. While it's always been a factor, increasingly it's who you know as well as what you know. The benefits of a strong professional and social network are undeniable in a job search. Here's a great article on networking for people who are fresh out of school from Monster.com:

If you need any more information about networking or anything else related to getting a job, feel free to explore the Office Live Students Page on Facebook. It has a ton of tips and advice for anyone wanting to get hired:
