7 Desirable Auto Car Insurance Companies

It certainly pays to shop around for car insurance coverage. Compare rates between insurance providers to find the best deals for you.

Auto insurance coverage is mandatory in most states or can be waived if you can show sufficient proof of assets. In any case, car insurance can help protect you if you’re in an accident, by paying repair bills, covering hospital costs, and protecting you in a lawsuit.

The insurance commissioner in your state authorizes who may write policies in your area, but the following car insurance companies have a national presence and are worth comparing when seeking price quotes.

Smart Tips

When contacting any car insurance company for a price quote, obtain quotes based on comparable coverage to arrive at an accurate comparison. Expect that these companies will review your credit reports to determine if they’ll offer coverage to you and at what rate.

Before obtaining price quotes, visit AnnualCreditReport.com to obtain copies of your credit reports. Review your reports closely, correcting errors before obtaining price quotes from auto insurers.

Adv. – If you are in the market for a new car, find a dealer to set up a test drive. Importantly, by arranging your own auto financing you can save hundreds of dollars, allowing you to take the manufacturer’s rebate instead of their low-rate financing.

As a collision shop owner, only one insurance company on that list is truly worth an honorable mention. USAA is the number one insurance company on your list, hands down, in my mind. They never underbid estimates. In fact they look for more damage and write true value damage estimates the way their competitors dont. They ALWAYS go with new parts on cars less than four years old.
Allstate is by far the worst. They underbid on labor and ALWAYS go with used parts even if the car is more than 2 years old. You’re in bad hands with Allstate. They also pay the lowest in body shop hourly labor rates. A few years ago State Farm was the worst but theyve changed their payout policy, and they’ve raised their body shop labor rates.
If you have to have cheap insurance for your car, then dont complain if your bodyshop has to do shoddy bodywork when your cheap insurance company forces them to do it. You really get what you pay for when you buy cheap insurance. Buyer beware. BTW- you’re not doing yourself any favors going with $1000 or higher deductibles either.

I am going to admit bias as I post this comment – I am a agent for Farmers insurance. I love this post and the basic information in the “Smart Tips” area is right-on!

One thing I’d like to offer is that readers also check out Farmers – http://www.farmers.com . Farmers Insurance is the 3rd Largest property & casualty insurer in the United States. They are truly the “Sleeping Giant” of the insurance world offering great coverages at affordable rates all supported by incredible claims support.

Just the right information I had needed two months ago…
Nevertheless, thanks Mathew for this post.
I think many people are not aware that their credit report will have a siginificant influence on the quotes they get so that tip alone is very helpful.
I’d also try to save time, get some quotes online and use them as reference when entering the local presence.
This way I already have a quote that they have to beat or they won’t get my money.

You will need to do your homework first so you have something to compare. Don’t go in blind and make sure you have exhausted the online market for quotes first.

Yes very true, you should get as many quotes to find the lowest rates on your car insurance. Some companies will check your credit only when you are ready to buy. Never let them run credit just on a quote.

USAA is a great company and also Wawanesa Insurance is great. Check those two out for sure… great service and claims.
