Career Building Through Summer Internships

Career Building Through Summer Internships
  • Opening Intro -

Commentary of another college friend of mine: I was involved in a University research a couple of months ago that involved interviewing employers to find out what kind of employees they prefer to work for them.

-------------------------------------

Internships are beneficial to students in many ways:

1) Hands On Skills

What is taught in lecture rooms is usually pure theories. An internship will help you understand these concepts better and open your mind to learn with the idea of applying your knowledge to real life situations. This will help you be a better graduate.

2) Put Your Resume On A Pedestal

The sight of (an) internship(s) completed while a student makes employers more interested. Companies don’t want to employ someone who lack the skills sets needed for the job. Having an internship gives you a higher chance of being shortlisted for that dream job that you have always wanted to work for.

So would you rather grab the next one and make your job seeking when you graduate a walk in the park or will you choose to lose that job when you graduate?

Has This Been a Valuable Read?

3) Networking

Most internships do not offer monetary compensation. At least not as students would expect.

But even though their compensation do not have a dollar sign on them, they aid students tremendously in establishing their careers. It is therefore crucial for students to work diligently with a willingness to learn and to view the challenges that avail them as they work as calls to dig deeper within themselves for better.

4) Time Saving

As most employees prefer graduates with some experience, it will be vital for students to look up internships when they graduate to help them get a job. That internship worked through during the summer will save you time when you graduate for you will not need to look for any other internships. You will be will have some experience to help you start your life long career.

Besides, would you rather grab that internship during the summer to save on time later or put one half of that year after graduation down doing internships. You choose.

So the next time you get a chance to do an internship for a certain company during the summer, do not wear that face and start complaining giving ‘no pay’ as the excuse you prefer to party the summer out. In any case, it is a chance to make your summer count. Pick it up and do not let your friends make that mistake – tell them to start building their career. THIS SUMMER!
