What degree is hot and What’s not?
Commentary from another college friend of mine:
In today’s job market a degree alone will not get you more than a guaranteed job interview whereas two decades ago it ensured a more than decent income and a comfortable future. Unless you are already on the verge of graduation you need to ask yourself, what degree is hot and what’s not?
Unless you are on your way to receive a professional degree in either accounting, law, engineering, agriculture or something in the health field you are almost certainly signing yourself up for either a low paying job or the need for graduate school.
I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology thinking employers will look at me as highly intelligent. Little did I know that they really would come to think I wasted my money. Make sure that before you apply for the college of your choice you have at least an understanding into which degrees will actually pay you money to work and which ones will only leave you with pipe dreams.
You fail in your preparation because no one plans to fail they simply just fail to plan.
The hottest degree on the market right now is nursing and we will go into why in just a minute.
Why is nursing such a hot degree?
The nursing field is becoming one of the hottest fields in the market because of the upcoming retirement of what is known now as the baby boomer generation. This generation is the one that was birthed from the victory of the second world war.
After the war was over everyone came home and in the great mood they were in, decided to make a lot of babies. Well these babies are all grown up now and with the rising age expectancy and the rise in need for care providers, a nursing degree could mean job security for years to come as well as plenty of job opportunity throughout the United States.
What degree is not hot?
Currently the lowest grossing degree is a degree majoring in early childhood development. With budgets tighter than ever it seems like education is always one of the areas hit the hardest. With tax money being diverted to other “more important areas”, early childhood development seems to be the bottom of our needs. Which if you think about it should be the most important but we will leave that for another time.

5 out of ten of the not hot degrees are in education. So if you are planning on making any money at least right out of college then education may not be for you. Which hurts me to say because we are in a time of misinformation and misinterpretation, so what we need more than ever is good educators to enlighten the youth. We may not get that with the way they are paying these careers.
Spread the word
It is everyone’s responsibility to be both socially aware and conscious about the socioeconomic environment as a whole. After reading this you should share this information because the degrees that people choose effects the future of this country and our development. It is your social responsibility to share this especially to help the young kids who are going off to college to try and better themselves and in turn our country and world.
In conclusion law, health, accounting and engineering are hot and education is not, go figure. The people that build, account for the money, make laws and treat the “sick”, make all the money while the people that teach the masses to think are not.
