There are lots of ways to make money while you study. Consider these 7 options to help you out.
1. Part-time work
This is perhaps the most obvious way to make money, but it bears repeating. Getting a part-time job can be hugely valuable. Not only will it earn you money, but it will also give you experience in the world of work – something that not all college graduates have. Bartending, wait staff, and cleaning are all viable options for students with no real skills yet.
2. Sell your crafts
Do you have a particular knack for making jewellery? Are you a whizz with a sewing machine? Have your friends remarked over how much they love your art? If you have a craft skill, you can make items for sale easily. Put the items up on sites like Etsy and try to build a following on social media so that you can get your sales going.
3. Rent out spare room
If your home has extra space, you might be sitting on a goldmine without realising it. Especially in a student town, there is always demand for more space. You could rent out the room to another student, or someone who works in the area. You could even rent out a room to be used as an office during the day. Sites like Spacer will help you to find the right matches.
4. Take surveys
Online surveys are often available from different providers. These can give you a reward of a small amount of money per time. While it may not seem like much per survey, it can quickly add up. Be sure to withdraw your money as often as possible so that you are not caught out by the site shutting down suddenly. You can even sign up for Amazon’s Mechanical Turk to do small tasks like this.
5. Go freelance
There are a number of skills which might also lend themselves to freelance work. Graphic design is a great way to get started, and you can establish yourself on a site like Fiverr. Writing is always in demand, so if you can write an article or a product description, you could make some extra money.
6. Start a blog
Bloggers can earn a lot of money, and while not everyone can gain a six-figure yearly sum, it is possible to get extra income this way. First, you need to start by establishing your site in a clear niche as an expert voice. Now, you can start to bring in revenue. You can do this with advertising on the site, taking sponsored posts where you are paid to write about a product, or through referral links. You can even save money by having products sent to you for review.
7. Become a tutor
Since you are in college, you must have passed through high school and learned a decent amount. You can use this knowledge to make some money by tutoring younger students. Pick a subject that you are particularly strong in and you could make a good reputation. This could be something that you continue all the way through college, as new kids need help each year.
There are lots of ways to make money while you study. Even though most of your time may be dedicated to learning, you can still use those spare hours to raise some funds.
