Top 4 Memorizing Techniques in College

Top 4 Memorizing Techniques in College
  • Opening Intro -

Let's face it - information has no meaning unless you can remember it.

From doing exams to handling technical tasks, we need to remember a lot of information on a daily basis.

-------------------------------------

An essential aspect of memorizing information is doing away with all distractions when you are studying. There are many distractions that you can fall victim to when studying. These include daydreaming or getting bored.

To improve you memorizing prowess, here are the top memorizing techniques that will help you when studying.

#1 Reading Out Loud

This may come across as a blatant method, but it is still essential. First of all, you have to figure out which method of absorbing information is easier for you: do you easily remember things that you heard or things that you read?

If you prefer reading, you can go ahead and skip this method.

For those of you who remember conversations better, this method will work well for you. While you are studying, try reading out loud. This
reinforces what you have read and commits it to memory.

Remember, this method will only work if you are truly paying attention to what you are studying. It is not a substitute for normal reading, but a reinforcing tool.

#2 Teaching Someone Else

Albert Einstein once said that if you cannot explain something to a six-year-old, then you have not fully understood it yourself. This is very true.

Teaching someone else allows you to go over what you have studied actively. Take, for example, a complex process that involves several stages. Teaching someone else will help you remember better as your constant correction of the person that you are teaching reinforces that information in your mind.

Another method that falls under this category is holding group discussions. Discussing a topic with a group of people helps you fill out the gaps in your mind as everyone forms a different opinion and perspective on a subject matter when studying.

Discussing and teaching what you’ve learned will help you to remember it better when it comes exam time.

#3 The Loci Method

This is a very effective method of memorizing things. The loci method works by associating objects of study with locations that you are familiar with.

Take for example, that you have an exam that requires you to remember the different goods that your country exports. These could be things like textiles, cars, oil and fish.
