This post provides some useful tips on how to save money in college.
1. Join a Car Sharing Scheme
If you hardly save some money from your salary, then there is no point in sending all the savings for buying a car. A better approach is to use public transport which is convenient and cheap option. Another solution is to join a car sharing scheme in which you are required to pay a fixed annual fee and you can use them on hourly rate. You will have to catch the car at pre-decided place and it can be used on a certain route. The use of car pools is also common here as money saving practice. You can use this option easily if you have a group of friends and that is never an issue for a college student.
2. Buy from Warehouse Sales
Warehouse sales are quite common these days and you can find a range of items in these sales at affordable prices. The items present are available at extremely cheap prices and you can expect discounts up to 50% on all items. The only demerit is that most of the items sold are those which are out of season. You can handle it by planning your requirements so that you buy these stuffs in advance. You can use them later and this will result in huge savings.
3. Make use of Discount Cards and Coupons
The popularity of online coupons is increasing all over the world. You can search online for the coupons related to hotel, restaurants and other services. Again, you can save up to 20-50% on these services with the help of discount cards. For instance, a very popular chain of petrol pumps in Singapore, BP petrol stations offer special discounts on petrol purchase to customers having discount cards. Similar practice is being practiced by a lot of sellers in different countries. All you need to do is to remain alert so that you can easily pick up these opportunities. You can check local newspapers for the coupons as well.
4. Eat at the Hawker – Centers
The culture of Hawker-Centers is also becoming quite common. You can find all the local dishes at one place in reasonable cost. At such, instead of wasting money on expensive restaurants, it is better to visit these hawker centers with your family. If you can pay little more, then food courts can be a good option too. The benefit of the food courts is that they are located near the shopping malls and are air conditioned. An important thing to remember here is that you should assign a part of the budget on the food courts or hawker-centers. It is a good practice to spend quality time with the family at these places buy you need to keep your financial condition in mind too.
