How to Stay Organized in College and Beyond – 3 Simple Steps
  • Opening Intro -

Organization is a key component of a successful life, but most college students and young adults find it more difficult than college trigonometry.

With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, finding the time to organize your classes, assignments, work schedule and social commitments can seem impossible. There are only 24 hours in each day and you may have realize that you need at least 36 hours to meet all your obligations. The reality is, there are more than enough hours in each day to accomplish all the tasks on your list. All you need is a better organization system to reclaim all those lost hours in your day. Here are some tips for productivity and organization.

1. Start Using A Planner Or Organizational System

Planners my seem old fashioned, but they have many benefits. Planners allow you to see what tasks need to be completed, how much time you have to complete these tasks, and who you should contact once the task has been completed. Many people waste a lot of time working on last minute assignments or making up for missed commitments. Knowing exactly what you need to do and when you need to do it, will free up several hours in your week to work on other projects or hobbies. If a physical planner isn’t for you, consider investing in an application for you mobile device or computer. There are some great applications that are specifically designed to help you stay on track with the tasks you have to do.

2. Keep All Of Your Tasks And Assignments In A Central Location

No matter if you choose a physical or digital planner; keep all your tasks and assignments in one location. Having multiple organization systems to manage can lead to clutter and further disorganization. Some people may benefit from having both a physical and digital planner depending on the way tasks and assignments are distributed on your campus or office. Using both types of organization systems can work together as long you keep things as simple as possible and avoid having your tasks and assignments too spread out. It is also helpful to invest in some folders or dividers to categorize everything you need to do in a way that is easy for you to understand and keep track of.

3. Choose A Specific Day To Plan For Your Upcoming Week

Planning ahead is the best way to get organized. Choose a day of the week that you will review your upcoming assignments, commitments and tasks. Many people like to do this on Sunday because that it usually the start of their week; but any day you choose will be fine. Allowing yourself to get an overview of the upcoming week will give you enough time to make scheduling changes if there are any conflicts, or cancel things you won’t have time to complete.

Staying organized will lead to more productivity and less stress. Finding a community of other people seeking a more productive life will provide you with new organization tips and tricks. Visit social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr to find others who share your interests.
