In this lifetime you would’ve probably heard this question a lot: “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Some of us are able to answer without flinching, but a better part might not be sure or have no clue until we have reached a more mature age.
Even if you realize what you want to do, you might feel that your age will count against you, but that’s not true. There are a lot of benefits for studying further, or even applying as a first time student, for example:
You’ll Know Exactly What You Want
Younger students are mostly pressured into making a quick decision in order to avoid cut off times or being left behind. As a mature student you’ll have had enough time to properly decide which direction you would like to go in and give it your all.
You’ll Be More Confident
Let’s face it; most youngsters don’t have the courage to raise their hand to ask a question. A lot of people are afraid to ask questions as they fear it might not relate or be a dumb question. Knowing what you want ties in with having confidence to ask any questions even if others might judge you.
Studied Into the Wrong Direction
You might feel that you’ve wasted so much time in the wrong direction and that there’s no going back. Do you feel too old to study something else?
This is the turnaround time. No matter how far you’ve gone you can always move into another direction. The great thing about further education is that the possibilities are endless. It’s easier to change over seeing that you’re already into a studying “groove”.
Don’t ever think or feel that you are too old to study. I’ve met numerous people who only realized what they wanted to do with their lives well after 25. It’s absolutely great if you know what you want to do when you’re 18, but it’s also okay if you’re not.
Numerous people only realize what they are interested in doing when they’re in a working environment. Sure, most of the best jobs are taken by people with degrees, but there is nothing stopping you from bettering yourself.
If You Need Help
Age is just a number, and it’s important to know that there are college advisors out there to help you on the right path.
Feel free to share this post with anyone you know that might fall into the “I’m too old to study” category, you might just help them realize their dreams and goals and they’ll be in your debt forever.
