How to Live Your Best Adult Life
  • Opening Intro -

Everyone has their own opinion on how best to live their life as an adult.

    But what really works?

What advice is worth listening to?

How do you choose what to do once you turn eighteen and your adult life begins?

-------------------------------------

While the sentiment behind these questions is real, there are no exact answers. There are only options that you have to decide between yourself.

Decide if College is for You

College used to be considered a necessity if you wanted to be successful, but with all the options that have been provided by technology, that concept is not necessarily true. Depending on what you want to do for your career, granted that you know what you want to do for your career, you may not need to apply to and attend college.

So what are your interests? If you are determined to become a doctor, then college is most definitely going to be your best option. If you want to be a social media mogul then you may not necessarily need to go.

You also may have no idea if you want to go to college which, while completely okay, is not something you should start if you are unsure. This is because of the financial commitment that college entails.

Consider a Gap Year

But no matter where you are at, saying yes, no, or I don’t know towards college, you can consider taking a gap year. A gap year is traditionally considered a year to travel and/or work to learn more about yourself before you start down the path that leads to your career.

There are so many gap year ideas out there that can fit any interest. If you want to travel, there are programs that you can buy into that are specifically geared to people of certain ages.

These group trips have destinations all over the world and not only will you see new places and experience new things, but you will also have the opportunity to meet new people your own age. If you want to volunteer, there are also programs you can enter that will allow you to travel the world and help those in need.

The Peace Corps is a famous program that by participating in, you can get student loans forgiven. You can also stay in your hometown and work a job to save up money for your next move if you have no idea what you want to do. The choice is yours.

Build Positive Habits

As an adult, you have so many different responsibilities, and the best way to tackle those as you get older is to build good habits you can lean on. Make sure you have basic habits in place before it feels like you are constantly playing catch up.

These can include learning how and when to do laundry, how to cook for yourself, and the best methods to keep your room, apartment, or house clean. This will especially come in handy if you get a demanding job and need to practice time management skills.

Otherwise, you will begin to feel overwhelmed pretty quickly. To live your best life, you need to learn how to prioritize your needs which include your hygiene and outward appearance. Build these habits early on and they will not feel as scary later on.

Prioritize Your Mental Health

Yes, it is important to use all the time and energy that you have as a young adult to hustle. this means putting extra hours in at the office, creating a side gig to follow your passions and make extra cash, as well as researching financial options like retirement plans that will pay off later on.

But you also need to make sure that you take care of yourself mentally. No one wants to burn out before they have even really gotten started. To truly succeed as an adult, you need to find your boundaries and stick by them to make healthy decisions, mentally and physically.
