Chick-fil-A Hits $25 Million College Scholarship Marker

I offer a disclaimer from the very beginning of this article – my family absolutely loves Chick-fil-A! Now that I’ve gotten that little legal notice out of the way I can share you one of the reasons why Chick-fil-A is one of our favorite places to dine – the restaurant chain gives back to the community and in spades.

Not Just Good Food

Chick-fil-ASure, we love their chicken sandwiches and can’t imagine missing out on their cole slaw, kids meals, brownies, cones, etc. But, we’re also glad that Chick-fil-A pours some of its profits back into the community in the form of a generous college scholarship fund.

Founded by S. Truett Cathy in 1967, Mr. Cathy is very much alive and still giving back. This past Monday, Mr. Cathy was joined by Ambassador Andrew Young and several other political and business leaders to mark an important milestone – the bestowing of the 25,000th Leadership Scholarship to a Chick-fil-A team leader from Louisiana. The award also marks the reaching of another significant milestone: $25 million in scholarship money donated by Chick-fil-A to date.

Speaking about these important milestones, Mr. Cathy had this to day, “I realized very early in my career that our restaurants present an opportunity to do more than just provide great service and food. They enable us to mentor our restaurant team members by teaching them core values and how to achieve excellence, as well as encouraging continued education with scholarships. In these challenging economic times, we’re thrilled to be able to help Jamie and some 1,400 other team members this year reach their academic goals so they will have the necessary tools to secure a bright future for themselves and our nation.”

Thousands Helped Since 1973

The college scholarship program was started in 1973 helping team leaders to attend 2400 colleges, universities and other educational institutions since. Some recipients return to head up Chick-fil-A franchises upon graduating from school while others pursue their dreams in as medical majors, educational specialists, business leaders, etc.

In addition to the company’s regular college scholarship program, Chick-fil-A’s WinShape Foundation provides thousands of dollars in scholarships to qualifying students enrolled in Berry College in Rome, Ga. WinShape’s partnership with Berry College offers joint four-year scholarship funding to students of up to $32,000. To date, the foundation has awarded approximately 951 scholarships to students from across the nation to attend Berry, recognized as one of the top regional liberal arts schools in the country.

Work For Businesses Who Give Back

High school students who are looking for work experience and desiring to save money toward their college education might want to consider working for businesses like Chick-fil-A which give back to the community. Gain some important experience and apply for what could become a life changing college scholarship opportunity.
