Campus Life: Not Always the Dream

Campus Life: Not Always the Dream

-------------------------------------

It would be a lie to say that campus life is horrible. It is neither horrible or great. It is simply a happy medium between the two. The problem is that many people don’t realize or choose not to accept this point and thus campus life can be described in two statements: “oh, bollocks i have a 5 minutes to get to my test, that is at the bottom of central side, which happens to be a 20 minute walk. OH my life is over WHHHHHYYYYYYY!!!” or ”I am going to out tonight with Victoria. I just aced my chemistry exam and i was made Basketball captain, so you know… ”

The difference between the two is passion and persistence. I know, we all have heard this before, but if you really want to succeed and survive campus life while having an awesome time? You need to find balance.

Campus life can be spell binding. There is constantly something going on, a party, parade, people fighting for a cause, a game… something. It is mind boggling how much is out there. ALL these weird and wonderful people, who seem so in control and happy. There is so much to do and talk about that in the end you kinda want to do everything. Which is GREAT. But before you go signing up for every activity, going to every party, making friends with every kind of person and even studying twenty four seven; you need to remind yourself why you are in college to begin with, what are your values/goals and where you wish to be in 10 years from now.

All of these can bring a startling clarity as to where you want to go and what you wish to be. The journey forth will seem to be more viable than before. You may learn and find that in the end the journey forth is one that may not need you to join that ”art of the month club” but will push you to become a public speaker. You need to decide what is important and stick to it because it will be OK to stay out a little later rather than go home to study. It will seem awesome to get that tattoo, despite needing to buy groceries at the end of the month. It will seem OK to leave that project for later despite the fact that there is FIVE more due in the same week.

You need to learn that campus life is not all play and little work, equally that it is not all work and no play. This.. weird and wonderful time is to explore yourself and your passions. Find out who you are and play around. Nothing is set in stone in life and this is especially present on campus. You do not have to have it all put together nor do you have to have everything made loopy. You have to go with the flow but keep your feet on the ground. Find a balance and accept that things do not always go the way you want it to go. Be realistic yet dream the craziest dream possible. Set goals and make a plan to reach them.

Campus life is not hard nor easy; it is a happy medium between the two that few people learn to accept because they fail to realize that campus (scratch that, college) is only the beginning.
