But the reality is, gambling has so many adverse consequences that could ruin your college life and even your career in the future.

Do college students really gamble?

Yes a majority of them do. According to statistics from researchers, approximately seventy-five percent of college students have participated in gambling in the past one year. About 18 percent of those students gamble at least once a week. There are those students that have become addicted to the activity and this is where the real danger lies.

Is gambling a bad thing in college

You may say that gambling is fun especially when you have attained the legal age. But college is the most crucial time of your life where you either make it or break it. But the truth is that gambling is never a risk-free activity. It has real consequences that can ruin your college life. For six percent of college students, gambling can become a serious problem. It can result in serious issues like psychological problems, unmanageable debts, and failing grades.

What is gambling?

There are three things that a game must meet to be considered gambling. Most students engage in gambling without even realizing it. For a game to be considered gambling, it must meet three criteria; First, the players wage money on an object of value. Secondly, once placed, the bet cannot be reversed. And thirdly, if the game’s outcome depends on chance.

There are many types of gambling like the lottery, casino, and card games and placing a bet on the racing track. Some are obvious like betting on fantasy sports leagues, betting on college and professional sports, raffles and even bingo.

Even betting on your favorite teams is considered gambling. If you are of legal age, and you chose to gamble, it is important that you make important decisions, set your limits before you start gambling and understand the odds before you decide to risk money. If you aren’t of legal age, there is no level of responsible gambling. Make sure that you know your state’s laws and restrictions.
