From frat parties and barhopping to football tailgates and crazy birthday parties, it is no secret that alcohol is the biggest driver of wild college parties and weekend activities.

But how can you unwind and have fun if you don’t take alcohol or just want to take a break from all the booze and noise?

Perhaps exams are around the corner and just cannot stand another hungover. No matter which college you go to or what city you are in, there are plenty of alcohol-free fun events and fun college activities on and off-campus that you can partake in to make the most out of your free time such as a weekend.

Some of the top suggestions are:

1. Sporting events never fail to entertain

Sure, there is always alcohol at sports competitions, but you do not need to drink to enjoy one.

Whether you love basketball, football, baseball, tennis or contact sports such as wrestling, attending an event to show your support for your school’s team is a great way to show your spirit and have fun. Dress the part by donning the school colors and ask your friends to tag along to help you with the cheering.

If there are no college sports being held, you could find local professional games to attend and it would still be mad fun.

2. Volunteer at local charities

Volunteering is one of those activities that one never knows how fun it is until they actually try. Rather than get bored in the dorm or waste your days showering in keg, carve out an hour or two to volunteer at a local homeless shelter or children’s home.

You can go online and find different ways you can contribute on national organizations such as the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. There are countless ways that you can contribute including walking dogs at animal shelters, organizing records in hospital and tutoring at educational centers.

3. Attend plays and musical performances

When was the last time you attended a play organized by your college’s arts club?

If you have never attended a musical or play performance at your school’s theater, it is time you discovered what you are missing.

Check the notice board or the school website to know what performances are scheduled and if there are none, there is still the option to get a friend and attend a stand-up comedy at a local theater or a professional musical or play performance at a theater in the city. Trust me, this would be a wonderful way to spend an evening.

There are of course a ton of other ways you can have fun without partaking in binge drinking.

You can get handy with do-it-yourself crafts at the college, enjoy the great outdoors such as the park or the beach if you live in a coastal city, or attend a potluck if you are a foodie.

To enjoy all these fun college events and activities even more, share the idea with your friends on Facebook and Twitter and you can count them in the next time you invite them to join you. They will have no excuse to get bored or waste their leisure time drinking.
