Are You Ready for Some Football?

-------------------------------------

The most amazing thing about the Fall is College Football. College Football is without a doubt the best casual entertainment in sports today.

This season, to me, is even more important than last season because it will be just the second season of the College Football Playoffs. The NCAA finally scrapped the BCS system and opted for a new more improved system.

At the beginning of last season, everyone was skeptical as to how the playoff system would actually work, and even more so would it be better than the always controversial BCS.

At the end of the season, the four best teams remained: the Jameis Winston led Seminoles of Florida State, Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide, the Ducks from Oregon, and Urban Myer’s Ohio State Buckeyes. For the first time in years, there was no doubt as to whether the best four teams were in the running for the National Championship.

During the first round, Florida State was pummeled by the speed and quickness of Oregon, and Alabama was surprised by the grit and perseverance of Ohio State. In the championship game, the Ohio State Buckeyes marched into the AT&T line up, kicked some ass, took some names, and strolled out of the stadium as the undisputed champions of College Football.

Last year was the test year for the College Football Playoffs, and by all measures it was indeed a success. This year is important to make sure that last year’s success was not just a fluke. Can this new system get it right every year? The playoff system might not be able to get it completely correct every year, but most fans will be satisfied if it comes as close as it did last year.

This off season has been great for some teams, and some teams have had detrimental losses at key positions. However, that is one of the greatest aspects of College Football; you never know who is going to win, and the players play hard every Saturday and on every down. The pundits will speculate that this team or that teams will be hoisting a trophy at the end, but the fact of the matter is, we do not know who or what is going to influence the outcome of the season.

College Football can slightly be compared to March madness if you spread it out over five months. Yea, College Football includes the massive drinking socials disguised as tailgates, but nothing compares to cheering for your alma mater with your fellow alumni on a Saturday afternoon. With College Football, all you have to do is sit down, shut up and enjoy the game.
