The tournament’s 78th edition is scheduled to commence on March 15. Let’s have a look at the predictions for this year’s championship!


Few sporting events can claim the amount of viewers that Selection Sunday gets. As this historic day inches closer, teams are starting to feel the pressure. The Kansas Jayhawks maintained top seed position this week, thanks to Villanova’s loss this week to the Xavier Musketeers. The same day witnessed a tired Iowa Hawkeyes team lose to the promising Wisconsin Badgers.


The Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas Tech Red Raiders made a convincing case for an NCAA bid. Texas came in strong this February with some dominant wins over ranked teams such as Oklahoma. This win was preceded by victories over Iowa State and Baylor. The Crimson Tides are on a winning streak with successive victories over Florida(61-55) and LSU(76-69). Their next match with the Arkansas Razorbacks could crucially affect their chances in the tournament.


Meanwhile, top seed teams Kansas and Oklahoma battled it out this month. Kansas emerged victorious over the Sooners(76-72). This win was slightly less dramatic compared to their home victory on January 4. Kansas has done exceedingly well this season, almost cementing their position as top seed team.

Jayhawks’ coach Bill Self told the media that he didn’t want to get over confident in the final set of games and wanted his team to remain focused. He also mentioned that they had an incentive to keep winning games. Oklahoma has done pretty well this season and still maintain the 3rd seed position. The North Carolina Tar Heels had a nail biting match with another top seed team Virginia. The match ended with North Carolina losing to Virginia 74-79.


This season also saw some scandalous news regarding the Missouri team’s violations during coach Frank Haith’s tenure. The team had self imposed various penalties. The most shocking one was the post season ban and also the South Eastern Conference Tournament. The Missouri Athletic Department has been involved with the NCAA for the last 19 months in this investigation.
