All of a sudden, one morning you wake up, late for class, pull open your dresser drawer, and realize you are out of undies.
Time to do some laundry.
The very word can instantly flood that precious college brain with panic and a bunch of questions. However, there are some tips to follow to make doing your own laundry a part of college life that you’ll eventually not find too bothersome. Lets face it; there are worse things to worry about than laundry when it comes to college life. So, lets get started.
Start saving your quarters right away.
Start noticing those quarters that are in your backpack, purse, and pockets, and make it a point to stash them away somewhere for when laundry time comes. If you have to go on a hunt for quarters at 11pm, you’ll be more likely to procrastinate. Don’t wait until the last minute to round up change for the machines.
Find out the right time to do the laundry
Try to scope out peak times that the machines are busy, and avoid doing laundry at those times! Of course, Sundays (pretty much all day) are the busiest times for the machines, so if possible avoid the laundry room on Sundays.
Be sure to clean the dryers lint trap.
Not doing so is a real fire hazard. Not only that, but a clean lint trap will allow your clothes to dry faster. Check to see where the dryers trap is, and clean it before you start and then between every load that goes in.
Don’t leave your laundry for too long.
If you have ever caught a whiff of laundry that was forgotten about and left in the washer, you know the smell is worthy of singing nose hairs. If you leave your clothes in the washer for too long, they really start to smell. Don’t leave your clothes in the dryer for long after they are done, either. This will be sure to really irritate your dorm buddies, and it is rude.
On the other hand, if you find another students laundry in the dryer, don’t throw it on the floor. Many laundry rooms have folding tables in them, and you would be better off piling the laundry (nicely) on that table or even on top of the dryer.
Plan when you will do laundry.
Don’t wait until you would be forced to do laundry in nothing but your bathrobe because it is the only thing clean. The absolute need to do some laundry has a funny way of popping up at the most inconvenient times, so don’t wait.
If you put the above tips into practice, your life in collage would be much easier.
