Going to a party in college is one thing. Throwing a party in college is a whole other story. Knowing how to throw a killer party is more than libations and limbo. It’s about giving your party the life and energy it needs to get your guests gassed up to be there. Here are a few simple ideas that will keep your parties fresh and exciting.

Costumes Count

Good costumes and imagination can make any party better. Making a costume party doesn’t just have to be an October thing. The fun part of playing someone or something else is that you can it enjoy all year round. So, spread the word and invite people to your first-ever costume party. Do yourself a favor though and go all out on your own costume. Nothing looks worse than a host who can’t even get into the spirit of his own costume party.

Have a Theme

College days can pass by with booze-filled parties and loud rock music. Doing the same old thing never gets your party anywhere. Give your party a theme and watch it erupt into the social event of the week. A great way to do this is through a costume-themed party. Don’t be afraid to be specific with the costumes. The toga party theme is all worn out, how about a masquerade for mardi gras, movies & celebs, dressed up football parties, superhero party (real and made up), etc. The best memories you will have will be of the outrageous costumes that people wore and the strange things people did while in a toga. Don’t be afraid to have fun with the themes and see just how entertaining you can get with them.

Think Outside the Box

Just having a Labor Day barbeque can be fun, but it won’t exactly be memorable. Take advantage of the seasons and the many odd events throughout the year and plan your parties around them. Finding fun and quirky things to do will certainly make your party memorable. Look at obscure holidays or unique and timely current events. Like Bob Marley’s birthday, the bikini makes its debut, the largest robbery heist, and you’ll find an idea that will spark a party people will talk about for years. The added benefit is you’ll have a party that people will want to attend. There is no novelty in a barbecue. People will show up to your novelty party just to see how you pull it off.

The most important thing is to have fun. Don’t be afraid to throw on a costume and have a good time with your friends. Parties should be about letting your hair down. So throw on your favorite costume and get ready to party!
