  • Opening Intro -

When it's time to move to college and pursue a higher education, it can be a challenge to pack for the experience and stay organized.

For most students, it's the first time that they're out on their own and living independently from their parents.

To make the move and transition less stressful, there are a few ways to stay organized with what you bring along after moving out for the year.

Bring Three Weeks Worth of Clothing

With limited closet space, you’ll only have enough room for about three weeks worth of clothing. Pack items that you’ll need for the season until you return home again, which should also include outfits for formal or semi-formal events.

Make a List of the Essentials

To stay organized with everything that you’ll need in your dorm or apartment, it’s important to make a list of what the essentials to survive your first year in college. Make different categories that can include items you’ll need for your desk and schoolwork, bedroom, and toiletries or bathroom essentials. This will help ensure you don’t arrive to school without an important item.

Bring Organizational Tools

To utilize every square foot of space in your new dorm, you’ll want to pack containers for extra storage options that you can place under the bed. It’s also important to bring along hangers that hold multiple pairs of pants, vacuum bags for extra clothing, and bed risers to create more storage space under the bed.

Pack a Toolbox

Make it easier to hang posters, put furniture together, and nail shelves up with a standard toolbox that will allow you to increase your functionality in the space.

Reduce Your Clutter

When packing for college, you’ll want to reduce the clutter or junk that you’re tempted to pack. If you haven’t used an item in a year, then it’s likely that you won’t use it once you’re enrolled in school full-time. Bring the bare minimum and gather extra items you feel like you need when you visit home again.

Rent a Moving Truck

To stay organized, don’t leave anything behind and save money, consider renting a moving truck or a larger vehicle than your car to transport all of your belongings. This will help keep your stress levels down and keep everything organized.

To make the transition to college less stressful, it’s important to take a few steps that will help you to stay organized. You’ll be able to arrive on your first day with only the essentials and can begin school feeling refreshed and composed.
