But I think there are some very good reasons why students coming straight out of high school should consider online education. Here are three reasons I think online education is the ideal option for many graduating seniors:
1) Online education is better adapted for today’s students.
Let’s face it, today’s students are glued to screens of every size and shape. Graduating seniors have grown up in a digital age, and the internet is a major component of their cultural climate, so it makes sense that they are better suited for online learning than their older counterparts.
According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, online learners actually learn more than students in traditional classrooms. (http://www2.ed.gov/rschstat/eval/tech/evidence-based-practices/finalreport.pdf)
2) Online education allows students to gain experience and education at the same time.
The job market is more competitive today than it has ever been. Candidates who have education and real world experience have a tremendous advantage over those with just education. Traditional educational structures, however, makes it difficult for students to gain valuable experience while at the same time completing their education. Online education on the other hand excels at giving the student the ability to get real-life job experience while at the same time competing their education.
3) Online education might better prepare the student for the digital workplace.
We all have to face the fact that the workplace is quickly becoming more and more digital. From factory workers to top executives, the digital world has invaded the workplace. Students who are immersed in this new digital landscape and who understand how to use it’s new tools for being productive have a distinct advantage over those who don’t. Students who have pursued an online education are better prepared to handle the unique challenges the digital workplace provides.
