  • Opening Intro -

Each year more than 250,000 international students enroll in U.S universities.

-------------------------------------

They all face similar challenges, from language barriers to securing international student loans, but some international students receive more support than others.

When you come to the U.S to study, having consistent, quality support from your university is vital to making your experience go smoothly. On top of that, you need to factor in tuition costs, the cost of living and University rankings when making your decisions on where to apply.

With that in mind today we are going to discuss 5 of the top U.S universities for international students.

Arizona State University

Arizona State University is one of the most popular institutions for international students in the U.S. Each year over 4,600 international students matriculate at the University. That means the school is well prepared for any eventuality that international students may face.

From employment options including optional practical training visa help to visa advisors and academic counseling ASU has everything international students could possibly need.

ASU also has multiple campuses in Tempe and Phoenix(the 5th largest city in the nation) and they offer every type of program you could imagine.

From the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism to the W.P Carey School of Business, no matter what subject you want to learn, ASU has you covered.

In-state tuition and fees are $11,338 and out-of-state tuition and fees are $29,428, making this the cheapest option on this list for international students.

The cost of living in the Phoenix area is also low, which makes ASU an ideal target for many international students. However, the school was ranked just the 117th best university in the U.S in 2019.

New York University

New York University is one of the most well-known schools in all of the U.S. It’s also a prime target for international students because of its location in Manhattan, its quality and diverse educational opportunities, and its consistent support for international students.

Annual enrollment of international students passed 5500 students last year and NYU was ranked the 29th best university in the U.S in 2019.

However, tuition and fees are quite pricey at over $53,000 a year. When it comes to studying in the U.S you will have to pay for location and university ranking, but if that’s what you prioritize, NYU is the place for you.

The University of California, San Diego

The University of California, San Diego has the second-highest percentage of international students on this list with around 20% of the school’s student body coming from overseas to study. Annual enrollment of international students passed 5500 last year.

Located in beautiful, sunny southern California, UCSD has a thriving international student community on campus. In particular, the Chinese Students and Scholars Association is the largest in the nation, making the university especially attractive to Chinese nationals.

UCSD was ranked the 37th best university in the U.S for 2019 and its in-state tuition and fees were $14,170 while out-of-state tuition and fees push $43,000 a year.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne is well known for its international student population. The school has the highest percentage of international students in the nation with 22.6% of the student body coming from overseas to study. Annual enrollment of international students passed 5200 students last year.

The University also offers some of the best scholarships and housing options for international students of any school on this list. UI really does a great job of supporting its international student body. Check out their international student resource center here if you’re interested.

The school was ranked the 69th best university in the U.S in 2019 with in-state tuition and fees pushing $16,000 and out-of-state tuition and fees reaching just over $33,000. The school is located in a more small-town setting, however which can be offputting to some.

other valuable tips:

Michigan State University

Michigan State University may be more well known for its football team than anything else, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a high-quality institution for higher learning. In fact, MSU was ranked the 84th best university in the U.S in 2019.

In-state tuition and fees for MSU are $14,460 and out-of-state tuition and fees are $39,766. MSU has any major you could possibly desire and it is known for pioneering the study of packaging, horticulture and music therapy.

Annual enrollment of international students was just over 4000 students in 2019, although that’s a small percentage of the total student body because MSU is one of the largest schools in the nation.

When applying to U.S universities you shouldn’t throw all your eggs into one basket. That means you might consider applying to all the schools on this list and then deciding where to go later on down the road.

Also, don’t forget to do school visits for your top choices. It may be expensive, but it’s well worth it to know if the shool’s atmosphere fits with your personality. Living in New York City is a very different thing from living in Urbana, Illinois, so make sure you love not only the school itself, but also the surrounding city or town.

When all is said and done, no matter what school you decide to attend, your education in the U.S will be challenging and rewarding, enjoy it while it lasts!
