For students, the holiday break is a much-needed time away from coursework and the school grind.

But this time off does not have to involve only chilling out and resting.

Get your imagination going with a few creative Christmas decoration craft ideas and add some festive spirit to your surroundings.

Festive Candles

With COVID-19 making the school year more different than it has ever been, you could be spending the holidays at home, in your dorm, or at an apartment. But no matter where you are, you can fill your space with holiday scents.

Nothing says “Christmas” like a pine tree-scented candle in the shape of a Christmas tree or a gingerbread-scented candle shaped like a gingerbread person. There are so many holiday symbols to inspire your melted wax or soy shapes, so try out a few of your favorites.

If you do not have the proper molds, look for cookie cutters or other household items.

Decorative Christmas Trees

At first, you may think this is a redundant craft idea since you almost always adorn Christmas trees with lights, tinsel, and ornaments. However, there are more ways than one to decorate a tree.

Find some clay and bake your own ornaments. You can make fun shapes like bells, candy canes, snowmen, and reindeer.

Or you can take your DIY crafting to the next level with textured frosted ornaments by pasting Epsom salts onto glass globes and letting the crystals set.

You can also decorate a Christmas tree with ribbon by tying themed fabric to the tree itself. Put together some glittery ribbon and decorative bells to make a glamorous tree.

Citrus Garlands

You likely have some greenery lying about for the Christmas color scheme. But do you have oranges? Citrus is an elemental holiday scent you can enjoy by hanging it in the air.

Boil some oranges and cranberries with cinnamon and cloves. The scent from the cooking alone will fill your space with a wonderful smell.

Once you have allowed the ingredients to mix for a few hours, remove the oranges and slice them up. Dry them out in the oven, and then string the hardened slices up across your mantle, doorway, or bedframe for a scent that will last.

Holiday Bells

Between Santa’s sleigh and the Salvation Army’s red kettle campaign, bells ring throughout the holiday season. Of course, jingling bells are the main theme for one of the most popular holiday songs. Why not hang up a few resounding bells of your own?

other valuable tips:

Use a few golden bells hanging on a rope. Tie some greenery, berries, pinecones, and ribbon onto the rope to add festive flavor. If you found basic bells, consider painting them or adding some cute decorations.

Use these creative Christmas decoration craft ideas to brighten your home, dorm room, or apartment this holiday season. Look for more DIY holiday décor and get crafty with your favorite ideas!
