If you’re still risking losing your phone and everything in it, take the time to read on and learn how to protect your smartphone from damage.
Case Closed!
If you don’t keep your phone in a heavy-duty protective phone case, it might as well be naked. Phone cases protect your smartphone from drops and falls, absorbing the impact and preventing the screen and enclosure from breaking, bending, or smashing.
Be sure to pick up a case with a tempered glass screen protector, since the glass can get scratched anywhere—even in your pocket, if you keep keys, coins, and other metal objects in there. Cases come in all sorts of styles, so you can even personalize your phone while protecting it.
Shocking!
Keeping your phone charged is a no-brainer, but are you taking the steps to ensure you’re not overcharging it? Your phone has clever internal shielding to protect it from electromagnetic interference and the like, but it’s still subject to electric shocks. When you charge your phone, make sure you’re connected to a surge protector to keep your phone from getting fried.
If the power spikes in your home, a circuit breaker in the surge protector will flip the circuit and stop the surge in its tracks. Make sure your phone isn’t overheating while it’s charging, too, because that can shorten its battery life.
Liquids Are the Enemy!
One of your phone’s biggest enemies is water (or any kind of liquid, really). But water seems to be the hardest one to avoid. If you’re visiting the pool, lake, or beach, keep your smartphone in a waterproof case. Many are available that allow you to still use your phone while keeping it sealed off from water.
Think twice before using your phone in the bathroom, too. Even if you avoid dropping it in the sink, tub, or toilet, the steam from a pleasantly hot shower can still seep into its inner workings.
Get a Grip!
Here’s a final tip on how to protect your smartphone from damage. The phone is only as safe as you make it, so hold it firmly when you’re using it, and avoid dangling it while you’re reading, taking selfies, or texting. When you put it down, pick a proper surface free from spills, gritty substances, food, and other hazards.
Don’t stick it in your back pocket, either; you risk sitting down and bending the casing. The best place for your phone is in your hand or in a purse or similar secured enclosure that keeps it safe from all of the above as well as temperature extremes. You owe it to your smartphone to keep it safe.
