Murderous College Professor Remains At Large

-------------------------------------

George Zinkhan is a University of Georgia marketing professor, but also the top suspect behind the murder of three people who were at a theater group picnic on Saturday in Athens, GA. Killed was his estranged wife and two others including a man who attempted to stop a heated argument between the husband and wife.

Professor Zinkhan Flees The Area

George ZinkhanZinkhan fled the scene, taking his waiting children with him.  After dropping them off with a friend, the professor fled the area in his red Jeep Liberty and hasn’t been seen since.

No motive has been uncovered explaining Zinkhan’s actions, but rumors of an alleged affair involving his wife have surfaced. Zinkhan is said to be a quiet man, perhaps a bit odd, but not someone who is given to rage. Close family members were stunned to learn about the murder and Zinkhan’s likely involvement, including recent attendance at a family Easter function where the entire family was present.

A Trail Grows Cold

Since his disappearance, Zinkhan hasn’t used either his cell phone or a credit card, two ways in which the authorities are usually able to track a person on the run.  Recently, Zinkhan had purchased a ticket to Amsterdam in the Netherlands where he owns a home. Zinkhan has family in the Austin, TX area where police have been notified he could be heading.

Zinkhan is a professor at the university’s Terry College of Business and has had no disciplinary problems nor does he have a criminal record.  The professor received his doctorate from the University of Michigan and previously held academic positions at the University of Houston and at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also an editor at the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, a position he has held since 2003.

Marie Bruce was a family law attorney who specialized in divorce cases and had been president of the Town & Gown Players, a local arts group which sponsored the picnic this past Saturday. A graduate of the University of Georgia’s law school, she was overseeing the production of “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure” at the theater.
