  • Opening Intro -

Living in a dorm is an important part of the college experience, making it possible for students to easily connect with one another and to avoid the extra responsibilities of managing off-campus housing.

Dorm living provides advantages over off-campus housing, a residential option that sometimes is not fully appreciated.

Campus Convenience

Location matters. And when it comes to campus housing, it doesn’t get any better than this. Dorms offering easy access to the rest of the campus provide the proximity students prize.

Classroom buildings, the library, athletic facilities and the cafeteria are just minutes away. Dorm living makes is possible to reach where you need to go on foot, while off-campus living requires a car to bring you to campus or you may need to rely on public transportation. Either transportation option will cost you money, funds you would not otherwise need to put out.

Peer Connection

Dorm living certainly is not perfect. You might be paired with the worst roommate, therefore it is important to get to know this individual before rooming with him or her. Then again, your dorm room mate may become your best friend, a lifelong buddy you can call upon.

Living in a dorm can also expose you to people of diverse backgrounds, individuals you might have trouble befriending on your own. A shared experience is a growth opportunity for all involved, making it possible to learn and study together as well.

Personal Growth

Most students living in a dorm are getting their first taste of living away from home without parental oversight. It can be a tough adjustment, but with peer support you can press on. You won’t be the only one adjusting and this “shared challenge” can strengthen the bond with classmates.

Living on campus also means that you will soon learn how best to manage your time and yourself. With classrooms just minutes away, you won’t need to rise eary to get there. You will also learn how to make good food choices with your cafeteria supplying a variety of foods for your perusal. Soon, you will make the connection between diet, your weight and exercise, and without the hassle of having to food shop and prepare your own meals.
