How to Make a Boring eLearning Class More Exciting
  • Opening Intro -

Online training is a great chance for all involved to develop their knowledge and skills in a way that will benefit what they do every day.

Unfortunately, keeping students focused and motivated can be a daunting task for even the best teachers.

-------------------------------------

However, not everyone views online learning this way, as some see it as education that is easy because the educators don’t have to deal with the problems that come with face-to-face or the traditional mode of learning.

Learners also contribute to the boredom in eLearning classes, because they see it as a task being forced on them, hence boring! Learners which are in the working class may also dislike being taken away from their everyday work to complete training, as they might be very busy or have important things to deal with.

Static Presentation May Not Be Engaging

Educators complain that sometimes they get bad reviews from learners after a training session and some of them complain that they find the whole session boring and lost. Just when you think you have created the perfect lesson plan or engaging activity you find that your students are still not interested. If students are not paying attention, then how are they going to learn and absorb information? Nevertheless, we have had our moments in some sessions, we see the bright flash of interest from the students and get great reviews after that. How do we extend these moments so that it can last long?

Online lectures don’t have to be about clicking through boring modules or watching countless videos featuring dry scripts. The great news is that online lectures can also be entertaining and exciting. If you teach kids online, here are 4 tested ways to keep your class interesting so students will stay engaged at all times.

Include a Movie in Your Lesson

Many educators think that showing movies in their lectures will make the students be unprepared for a lesson in advance and they may eventually unable to meet up with the course syllabus. These factors are valid, however, the use of movies or scenes from a movie can also be a valuable teaching tool.

Movies can help the student to practice gist listening skills, practice vocabulary, and allow students to be exposed to a variety of accents. You can even decide to turn off the sound, have your students watch the movie in silence and work in pairs or a group to put their own dialogue to what they see.

Use colors to set the mood

Reds, pinks, blacks and blues are specific colors with different meanings. There is a reason certain adjectives are used to describe some colors. You don’t have to stick to dull greys, the repetitious blacks and insipid blue just because you’re teaching a complex topic. If you don’t want to cause boredom and eventually drive your students to sleep, use colors that evoke particular emotions.

Colors create moods and that is the reason you must create a course with colors that feels inviting and set the mood right. To be able to leverage on this information, First of all, learn about the psychology of colors and evoke the right emotions in your learners. Have fun with colors, mix-and-match colors to create more evocative designs.

Focus on your students

Create questions with content tailored to your students’ depth of knowledge and learning style, this is called the differentiated learning plans. This will help improve the effectiveness of the course and the ability of your students to relate to the material.

Regardless of how stringent the curriculum is, these approaches have to be fun and the students can also learn while having fun. A tailored training approach fosters a learning environment with a greater testing success rate.

Group Work

Sometimes spending a whole training session listening on your own can be a little off-putting, so giving students the chance to work as part of a group can make it more fun and exciting. Group work can help in creating a mind map around a specific topic or question, and also means that the students get to see other points of view rather than just their own.

Spending time working with a group will not only let your class get more familiar with each other, but time spent talking with peers is seen as more of a social activity, even if they are discussing points related to the learning session. This should make group work more enjoyable than spending the whole session in a traditional lecture scenario.

In conclusion, using the techniques listed above can be a fun and interesting way of delivering eLearning content. It’s important to make sure you plan out your sessions so that they can connect to the bigger picture because if they’re not learning anything at the end of it, it’s pointless.

When students are introduced to a different way to learn – they are likely to be excited by this. This is because it’s something they aren’t used to, so they will look forward to every class and be eager to learn. Make sure you include fun activities and the most important result from an eLearning session is that your students are more knowledgeable and skilled on a particular topic.
