Studies have shown that instilling healthy study habits have a huge impact on students’ careers in the future.
Hence, college students are advised to work more towards personal growth through self efficacy and self discipline. The following pointers are pivotal to make the most out of your college experience. Implementing them may take a fair amount of struggle, but they will be a sure step towards success.
Prioritize Academics over Everything
Some students tend to regret their years in college because they either spent too much time procrastinating or partying. The few years of college can be quite a roller coaster ride and will be over sooner than you can think. Hence, going with a headstrong and focused mindset can save you from the guilt later.
Keep your studies, your top most priority; for that is what you enrolled yourself in a college anyway.
Thus, you must never slack off on your academic duties. It will also help you in the long run by keeping you motivated to learn in every class.
On the other hand piling up assignments for the very end will stress you out and may leave you with submitting substandard work. Give time to your projects since day one to submit the best possible work.
Practice Discipline
College teachers do not emphasize enough on how important this trait is for you to be successful in any walk of life. Students often waste time waiting for motivation. They even go at lengths to buy expensive, attractive stationery and setting up personalized dorm rooms to help them stay inspired.
But motivation is temporary, it is endless grit that will not truly help you through your college years.
A student may pick up things faster, another may have a better memory and discipline, which when practiced daily can really make a difference in your academic performance and social life.
Practicing meditation and building new habits for at least twenty one days straight will help you become more disciplined.
Pick Good Friends
As Jim Rohn says “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” No one is asking you to be too picky with friends, but do form a circle who is closest to the person you are aspiring to become. Having friends with similar, strong, healthy habits can be a huge lifesaver. Especially for times when the going gets tough, which is rather common in college since the stress can be overwhelming.
Moreover, building healthier, fulfilling relationships also helps you improve your emotional intelligence. This will inevitably help you perform better at stressful tasks that require complete focus, plus teamwork can get you things done faster.
