How To Handle Spring Cleaning With Roommates
  • Opening Intro -

When spring comes around, we often want to start new hobbies or purge any unhealthy items in our lives.

Cleaning your apartment is a way to achieve both of these goals, and it also brings organization to your living space.

However, when you have roommates, the accomplishment of cleaning the apartment becomes more challenging—but there are ways to solve this.

Here’s how to handle spring cleaning with roommates.

Make a Plan

You always want to communicate with your roommates regarding anything about your apartment, especially when you want to clean and tidy up the entire place. You’ll all want to talk about what everyone is comfortable doing and determine how much attention each section of the apartment needs.

Divide Duties

Splitting up duties between yourself and whoever you live with will make the work around the apartment less stressful. Living with multiple people allows you to split up the tasks, perhaps by assigning one room to each person. You’ll need to list tasks for each room, including the bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Each room will have specific tasks to clean them thoroughly; don’t be afraid to be detailed.

Work Out a Schedule

With everyone having different daily schedules, complications may occur during the spring cleaning process. Noting when everyone has some free time between work and school to clean will make the coordination of this effort less complicated and make the delegation of tasks more manageable.

Coordinate

Communication and coordination go well together when you’re discussing a group effort. Coordination is critical for handling spring cleaning with roommates. Consult with your roommates about how each one of you plans to clean a particular part of the apartment.

Help Each Other

Every roommate will have their own set of tasks to perform, but this doesn’t mean you can’t help each other. Check in with one another from time to time to make sure you’re all handling the cleaning well or to see if anyone needs help.

Some cleaning duties, such as dusting high shelves or cleaning the oven, may prove more bothersome than others. But with the help of your roommates, you’ll complete the job twice as quickly. Having some helping hands will also give everyone time for breaks so that you can rest and then resume your cleaning duties once again.

Create a Standard

After everyone has completed their share of work, you need to establish that the state of the apartment is the new standard of how it should look. By having an ideal standard of your living space, you create a bare minimum that tells the residents what they should expect when taking care of their home.

Spring cleaning is a chore that involves a lot of duties. But when you have roommates to help you take on this lengthy task, you will find your apartment clean, and your bond strengthened.
