7 Simple Ways College Students Can Give Back

7 Simple Ways College Students Can Give Back
  • Opening Intro -

Living a life of generosity and compassion is something to strive for.

Yet for many reasons—money being one of them—it's hard for college students to embrace a life of consistent charitable giving.

However, it’s not as impossible as it seems on. College students can actually give back in tons of simple ways that will help create a lifestyle of generosity and care. Below we’ve listed a few simple, almost-free ways college students can give back to their schools and their communities.

Volunteer Once a Week

One of the best ways to embrace a more compassionate lifestyle is by volunteering. You may think you don’t have the time, but you can probably spare one hour a week to help others. Whether you volunteer at an animal shelter or at your local soup kitchen, you’ll help out those in need and build your generosity muscle.

Give Blood

As the new year rolls around, think about donating blood. According to the American Red Cross, patients across the U.S. need a total of 36,000 units of red blood cells each day, so do your part and donate some blood from time to time.

Better yet, you could even try to set up a blood drive on your campus. Events like this are wonderful for creating a generous environment that lasts.

Donate Clothes

As you clean your dorm room from time to time, keep a donation box handy for when you come across clothing items you just aren’t wearing.

Many charities and organizations need clothing donations in the wintertime, so take one of the simplest steps to giving back by setting up a donation pickup for your chosen charity. Get your roommates to participate—you’d be surprised at how much you can organize as a team.

Write a Thank-You Card to Professors

Another easy way to give back is to show gratitude to your professors. They spend a lot of their time outside the classroom grading papers and advising students, so make sure you support them as much as they support you. A simple card can go a long way in improving their day and yours.

Collect Spare Change and Donate to a Charity

Instead of letting spare change sit in your coat pockets or on top of the washing machine, keep a jar of it. Toss in some coins when you have them, and you’ll be on your way to a decent amount of money to donate to your charity of choice.

other valuable tips:

Visit a Nursing Home

We love this idea for clubs and groups on your campus. Get in contact with a local nursing home, and see whether or not they’ll allow a group of visitors. Most often, the answer will be yes, so all of you can enjoy the company and stories of your elders. You could even bring a few of your favorite games and instruments for entertainment.

Use Click Buttons

Finally, another free way to give back to those in need is by simply doing some clicking. Using click buttons to donate requires only a simple click, which will lead you to a page with ads. These ads cause the advertiser to donate a certain percentage per click. Just check and make sure the site runs through CharityUSA before you begin.
