Packing the Perfect Care Package for Your Faraway Friends

Packing the Perfect Care Package for Your Faraway Friends
  • Opening Intro -

It can be hard to lose physical contact with your friends when you all move away for college.

One great way to stay connected is to send care packages full of things that remind you of them, or necessities that they’ve mentioned they’re low on.

Not sure where to start with a care package? Here’s a guide for packing the perfect care package for your faraway friends.

Start With Something Personal

One of the most important items in a care package is something personal that will remind you and your recipient of your friendship. Pictures in a cute friendship frame, matching jewelry, a custom long-distance mug showing your two states, or text conversations printed on pretty paper can all make great personal features in your care package.

Include a Necessity or Two

Everyone forgets something important when moving away to college, and this can be your chance to mail your friend something that they’re missing. Even if they managed to remember or replace whatever they forgot, dorm room supplies run out.

Pens, snacks, coffee, and medicine are always necessities. An extra water bottle, pair of socks, or notebook will always come in handy, too.

Help Them Relax

College is stressful, so include something that will help your friend relax. Some people relax by staying in, and some relax by going out, so consider what your friend will appreciate most. A book of crossword puzzles, a bath bomb, or a candle will be great for people who like to relax at home.

Gift cards make great going out gifts—think of their favorite restaurants, stores, and experiences in their area. If you can’t get an appropriate gift card, send them a scavenger hunt based on a map of their campus or town.

Include directions, like skipping across the campus lawn or climbing a tree in the local park, to get their minds off school and onto having fun.

Pack It Up

Once you have your items, it’s time to pack them up. Get an adequately sized box so that heavy items don’t crush snacks or wrinkle paper products.

Wrap any breakable items in paper and consider extra cushion, like paper grass, to be both protective and decorative. Include a handwritten note explaining the items and that you’re thinking of them for an extra personal touch.

Lastly, choose a durable tape to seal it up with. Ideally, select something versatile, like Kraft tape, so that you don’t buy a big wheel of tape you’ll only use for packages. And now, your care package is ready to send!

Packing the perfect care package for your faraway friends can be daunting, but following this easy guide will ensure that your packages are full of fun and useful items your friends will love. Even if you’re sending a lot of care packages to a lot of friends, remember to keep things personal so that they’ll all remember how much you care, no matter how many miles apart you are.
