Four Great Tips That Will Help You Get Accepted into College

    There are a lot of steps to take and it can be confusing or overwhelming when you're trying to figure out exactly what you need to be doing.


Here are a few steps to help ease the process of getting into college.

1. Earn the best grades you can in high school.

Grades are extremely important when you’re trying to get into college. It’s safe to say that they are the most important aspect of getting into college. You should keep your grades as high as possible for all four years of high school.

Aim for grades-based awards such as the honor roll or being a member of the National Honor Society. All of this can be included in your college application.

If you are a sophomore or higher and your grades haven’t been the best in the past, it’s not too late to get your grades up to college-level worthiness. Make a huge effort to turn your grades around. Even if you have to stay after-school for help or get tutoring, it will be worth it.

2. Do some volunteer work, get a part-time job, or join an after-school club.

Colleges like to see that students can multitask. A student who can keep their grades up while juggling a school club and a job is one who would fit right in on campus.

Volunteering for a good cause in your area shows that you are all about being a part of a community and that you’re a good, wholesome person. This is the type of person they look for to represent their school.

The reason why volunteering or being a part of something is important in the college application process is because it shows colleges your character and personality.

This is something that an SAT score cannot do. It shows your ability to work with a team and to be a leader. All of this is crucial to your success in college.

3. Work on your essay writing skills.

You know that your college essay has to be grammatically correct, but more than that it has to be insight into who you are. You need to be able to write a captivating story that grabs the attention of the college admissions officer, or whoever may read the essay.

A good way to make sure that you have the skills you need to write a great essay is to take several writing classes while you’re in school. You could even go as far as taking a creative writing class to learn how to captivate your audience.

When writing a college essay, don’t rush through it. Take your time and rewrite it as many times as you need to. Let other people read it and give you opinions. Read it out loud to yourself. Do whatever it takes to perfect that essay because it will be a first impression of you as a potential student

4. Don’t go through the process alone.

You’ve never been to college so it’s okay if you don’t know how to navigate the process. That’s what parents, teachers, and guidance counselors are for. Guidance counselors are a great resource for college admissions advising.

They are literally trained to advise students. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. In fact, ask a lot of questions. Don’t leave anything to chance. The people in your life have more than likely navigated the college process before so they’ll be able to give you really good advice.
