Why You Should Consider University Abroad

Why You Should Consider University Abroad
  • Opening Intro -

As you begin your senior year in high school, you should be prepared to finalize your plans for furthering your education.

One option to consider is to study at a university abroad.

-------------------------------------

While this can be a little more costly in terms of getting to your new school in a different country, the benefits you’ll get from this opportunity will far outweigh the costs.

Here are just a few reasons to consider attending a university in a foreign country

You’ll Get to See the World

You can’t imagine how small the world really is until you’re living in Asia or Europe. While much of your time will be spent studying and attending classes, you can tour other parts of Europe or Asia during breaks.

You’ll get to experience a vast range of different cultures, which all exist within a short distance from one another. You can explore different types of terrain, enjoy time on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and explore historical monuments you’ve only read about in books.

Experience a Different Type of Learning

In the United States, teachers assume the authoritarian style of education in which they dictate lessons for students to absorb. In this type of setting, students take notes as the teacher provides a lecture.

However, as you study in Canada or another foreign country, you’ll be exposed to different teaching methods. For instance, the facilitator style involves instructors helping students to develop critical thinking skills, while the delegator style involves providing a lab-style classroom in which students are assigned projects.

Learn New Languages

If you have ever wanted to learn a new language, studying abroad provides the ideal opportunity for you to get started. Many people find that it’s easier to learn a second language when they immerse themselves in a culture that solely speaks that language.

You’ll have to learn how to speak the language that’s native to the country if you expect to survive within its culture. This can help you learn faster.

As an added benefit, you’ll learn how to speak fluently in the dialect of the community, which is far different from classroom foreign language lessons. In no time at all, you’ll be speaking as well as any native member of that culture.

Expand Your Network

The internet will make it possible for you to stay in touch with friends and loved ones from your hometown. While you’re attending school abroad, you’ll also have the opportunity to develop new friendships with your classmates and the other people you meet in the community in which you’re staying.

This can provide you with a way of maintaining a global network of friends and colleagues. Even after you return to the United States, you can maintain these friendships throughout your lifetime. You may even find these connections useful in your career as you look for new opportunities in the future.

Bolster Your Resume

Employers are looking for candidates who are willing to take risks because they know that’s how leaders are forged. When they see that you’ve traveled to a foreign country to pursue your education, they will recognize you as someone who will take calculated risks.

They will also recognize that you’ll bring something unique to their organization. You might even find that your experiences abroad have given you an extra edge in competing for any open position.

The most compelling reason to consider studying abroad is that it may present you with opportunities you might not have otherwise. By the time you graduate in a foreign country, you may already be getting offers from employers in that community.

This is an opportunity for you to continue working abroad, especially if you receive offers that are more lucrative than anything you could receive in the United States. It will be up to you to decide if this is the path you want to take.
