You Need Your Sleep

It is not uncommon to find college students who have stayed up past three in the morning, finishing essays, studying, or trying to get ahead on assignments. While there may be times where an all-nighter can help you in a clutch, consistently staying up and losing sleep will only serve to further harm you.

Let Your Body Process Naturally

Your body needs sleep to perform the functions that keep you active, healthy, and mentally stable. Giving up that sleep will have a direct impact on how well your body responds to external and internal forces.

The longer you go without adequate sleep, the more profound the aftereffects will be. The body already has ways of negatively reacting to stress, and a lack of sleep will only exacerbate the issue further. 

Have Emotional Support

College can be a difficult experience, as your life has been uprooted and shifted. While you’re thrown into a foreign and stressful environment, you may feel as if you are in it alone.

These feelings can compound the already stressful environment you’ve been thrown into, which can quickly lead to feelings of isolation and melancholy.

Find People Willing To Listen

If you didn’t start attending college with friends, then there are still people on campus ready and willing to listen. School counselors can be a comfort when you need someone to listen to your problems. Offloading your stress can be a cathartic experience that can help you put everything into perspective when you say them aloud. 

Unhealthy Dietary Choices

The stereotype of ramen-eating college students is sadly all too true, but that does not make it any healthier. Lacking basic nutrition can make you more tired throughout the day, negatively affecting your energy levels. This can also lead to a decline in academic performance.

Eat Healthily

While it is easier said than done, you need to look for food that gives you the nutrients you need to keep going. Proteins from meat, fibers from vegetables, and monosaturated fats from nuts are all important to consume. There are inexpensive ways to get healthy foods, but it may take some time to find them.

Find What Calms You

Beyond the basics of what applies to everybody, you need to find ways that help you relax during stressful times. Whether those are hobbies, nature walks, or sitting and listening to music, you may already have some ways to handle stress while at college.
