If you’re looking in the right places, there is no shortage of professional pathways that can promptly lead to budding careers.
So I’m going to take you through a few different entry-level roles, which are suited to arts graduates; specifically, those who have studied English and Art.
For English Graduates…
If you’ve just received your English or Creative Writing degree, but are at your wits’ end trying to figure out what your path forward looks like, don’t despair.
Firstly, you aren’t alone, and second of all, you should be somewhat relieved to hear that there are plenty of well-paying entry-level positions out there that will continue to develop your writing skills – all while you finish the next great novel of the 21st Century in your own time.
Here are a couple of options:
Marketing
An entry-level role in marketing will give you a relaxed office environment, social working hours, and plenty of blogs and copy to write. Commercial writing is different to what you studied at university, but that doesn’t mean you should look down on it.
Marketing is all about supporting a company to articulate its message to its target audience, and writing in this environment will challenge and develop you in ways that you don’t expect.
Career prospects in the marketing industry are limitless; you can choose to work in an agency environment, which will expose you to a variety of different clients, all operating in different sectors, or you could choose to work on the client side instead, within a company’s internal marketing team.
Teaching
Teaching is one of the most respected professions in the world. With an undergraduate degree, there are multiple academic pathways to choose from, whether you want to teach primary, secondary, further education, or in higher education.
No matter which setting you choose, your job would have an immeasurable impact, as you shape the minds of the next generation, encouraging them to explore their passions, try new things, and instill resilience and focus in the face of academic challenges.
As a career, Teaching is a stable profession, where professionals see regular salary uplifts along with their years of service and the extra responsibilities they choose to take on, like supporting the SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) team.
For Art Graduates…
The prospects for art graduates have improved in recent years, especially as demand for digital art in media and marketing has exploded.
Here are some viable entry-level roles that are abundant, offer fair pay, and have good career prospects in the long run.
Graphic Design
Junior positions within graphic design are particularly varied – especially for anyone working in an agency setting.
In this role, you’ll put your skills to use, designing engaging marketing collateral, compelling digital graphics and assets, and learn more about the real-world application of design principles that you might have already learned about.
When it comes to graphic design, there are multiple routes to building a successful career. Whether you’re freelancing and doing most of your work from home or settling in at a design agency in Manchester, an entry-level role in graphic design will further sharpen the skills you’ve picked up at university, while rewarding you with a long-term career that scratches that creative itch.
Motion Design
Motion Designers, also known as Motion Graphics Artists, are creative professionals who combine skills in illustration, graphics, and animation to create polished digital art spanning film, TV, video games, marketing, and more.
These roles are in high demand, but they are also among the most fulfilling careers for artists seeking a more creative profession.
One Motion Designer’s career can be completely different to another’s, depending on where they work. Freelancing remains a strong option, offering greater flexibility but less security.
At the same time, a job in a marketing or production team will have a more ‘corporate’ feel and offer professionals more structure.

Explore each opportunity with an open mind and find the career that works best for you; you don’t need to be a struggling artist in 2026.
