Natural Fragrances List
Whether you just want a fresh-smelling dorm room to come back to after a long day in class, or you’re hosting a party for your college friends, natural fragrances are the way to go. Apart from being non-toxic, natural fragrances are more relaxing, effective and affordable than the commercial synthetic versions. Here are some natural ways to perfume your living place.
Potted Plants
If you live in a college apartment, you probably already have some potted plants in your living room, kitchen or balcony. Potted plants make your room look more natural, inviting and cozy. But besides that, these plants are also natural air purifiers. They clean the air, thereby ensuring that your indoor living space is fresh. Some of the best plants you might want to consider include palm trees, peace lilies and orchids.
Essential Oils/Water Spray
Essential oils are relaxing, non-toxic, and in most cases antibacterial. Make an essential oil/water spray by filling a diffuser with distilled water, and adding a few drops of your favorite oil into the water. When you turn the diffuser on, it will create a light mist that transports the sweet-smelling scent throughout your house. If you don’t have a diffuser, use a spray bottle instead. Remember that you can always adjust the intensity of the smell by increasing or decreasing the amount of essential oil you add.
Natural Candles
Instead of regular candles, try using natural candles like soy or bees wax candles. They last longer, are better for the environment and have a light pleasing scent.
Simmering Spices and Essential Oils
Fill a pot with water and put it on the stove to boil. Add cloves, cinnamon or peels from citrus fruits (lemon, orange etc.) to the boiling water. Leave them on the fire for a few minutes. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the boiling water, and let it simmer. Enjoy the sweet smell that will soon fill your entire room.
Cleaning With Essential Oils
Add essential oils to the water (preferably warm) you use for cleaning the counters or mopping your floor to help kill bacteria and add some fantastic smell. A great combination to consider for extra cleaning and deodorizing power is orange and pine.
Baking Soda
Sprinkle baking soda on smelly surfaces like garbage cans and fridges, wait for about 30 minutes and then rinse with vinegar solution (3 parts vinegar, 1 part water). As the vinegar evaporates, it neutralizes and removes the offensive odor, leaving behind a fresh smell.
Open The Windows
Open your windows to let in air into your apartment or dorm room. It’s a very easy, free and effective way to keep your room smelling fresh all the time.
Decorate Naturally
If you have access to a flower garden within or near your college, consider collecting some fresh fragrant foliage from rosemary, lavender, or sage to make wreaths or fill your flower vase. The foliage will definitely leave your room looking stunning and smelling great.
Try some of these natural ways to perfume your college room or apartment and create a fresh, warm and relaxing environment for you and your friends.
