There’s so much conflicting information available today on cannabis that it’s difficult to know where to begin sorting fact from fiction, but one truth is abundantly clear: More education is needed on what this plant can and cannot do.
One dispensary in Eastern Massachusetts, Uma Flowers, has taken a strong focus on consumer education.
Here’s why:
Cannabis May Have Untapped Medical Properties
Researchers are discovering more and more possible uses for cannabis every day. While few of these findings are yet written in stone, the possibilities are interesting.
There are more than 120 different cannabinoids found within the cannabis plant. And of these, only two — THC and CBD — are the ones you hear about regularly.
What other mysteries could this compelling plant hide, and how best can they be harvested for human use? Education could tell us.
Cannabis Use Is on the Rise Among Young People
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 4 out of every 10 high school students have experimented with cannabis — a cannabis derivative made from the leaves, stems, and flowers of the plant.
Not enough research is available to give solid findings on how cannabis effects the growing mind, which is a source of major concern for parents.
If more research existed, more parents could sit down with their children to discuss the facts regarding frequent cannabis use. Or perhaps they could sleep more easily at night, knowing risks are minimal.
Either way, more research and consumer education would clearly benefit America’s youth.
It’s Unclear Which Cannabis Delivery System Is the Most Effective
Many who use products such as CBD oil, edibles, or medical cannabis swear by its alleged healing properties. But science hasn’t yet uncovered why some delivery systems may be better than others.
It’s also not scientifically clear whether such claims are completely valid. We hear that cannabis may help alleviate seizure disorders, anxiety, and insomnia, but there is simply not enough scientific evidence to back these claims, at least not yet.
With more research may come more clarity and more education. If cannabis truly is the wonder drug that many proclaim, more people should have access to it. Only through additional research will this goal become reality.
We’re Not Yet Sure Which Cannabinoids Do What
There are a lot of unknowns regarding the many cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant. Do some relieve pain? Are others capable of improving chronic conditions such as cancer or diabetes?
We simply don’t know. Science hasn’t yet caught up to speculation, and when it does, what sort of revelations will that bring?
Knowledge is always power, and the more we learn about cannabis and what it can do for the human mind and body, the more beneficial it seems.
Are we right to place our faith in a plant that’s been maligned and overlooked for decades? Only more research and education can tell us.
