  • Don’t worry about writing down every word your instructor says, but be sure to track the main ideas of the lesson.
  • Use bullet points, headings and subheadings, and lists to keep your notes organized and concise.
  • Taking good notes requires that you are alert and paying attention so that you can track the lecture, so always come to class ready to focus.

2. Know Your Learning Style

Not everyone learns the same. Some people learn best from listening, some from seeing, and some from doing. Most learn from some combination of the three. It’s important to know how you learn best so you can adapt your note-taking and studying technique accordingly.
