What many students forget about, however, is how much time they’ll actually be spending in their dorm room. And there are certain items that every student needs to stay comfortable and make the most of their studies.
If you’re getting ready to move into your dorm, or if you’re just starting to settle in, consider adding these essential items to your list of things to pick up, brought to you by SayCampusLife.com.
Mini Fridge
You’d be surprised how easy it is to forget about this one. However, a mini fridge is critical because you’re more likely to spend money dining out if you’re not able to get groceries and keep them cool. You can even get a dry-erasable mini fridge so you can write and draw on the outside of it.
Small Sanctuary
If you’re like most college students, chances are you often feel the stress of balancing everything you need to accomplish. If you have a little space in your dorm room, set up a spot where you can successfully unplug and unwind for a bit.
This doesn’t have to be a very large space; all you need is an area where you can meditate in peace without any distractions. This may include asking your roommate for a little alone time.
Streaming Device
Most college students also like to kick back with a TV show or movie after a long day of studying. A lot of dorms don’t provide cable, but getting a streaming device will allow you to access thousands of TV episodes and movies.
With several devices to choose from, be sure to compare features and prices to find the right one. It might also be a good idea to get a set of headphones so you can listen to your shows and movies without interruption.
What’s more, a noise-canceling pair might be a good idea to help drown out surrounding noise.
Storage Options
Clever storage options will allow for you to make the most of the space in your dorm room. One of the best ways to optimize your space is by getting bed risers and storing belongings (e.g., shoes, out-of-season clothes, extra bedding) under your bed.
Also, consider getting a rolling cart to keep pantry items like coffee pods, cereal, and dishes. Furthermore, if you have the room, get a storage ottoman that you can use as a footrest, table, and storage.
Disinfecting Wipes
Clorox, Lysol, or disinfecting wipes make cleaning really quick and easy. This means they come in especially handy for busy college students. Plus, you won’t need many other cleaning supplies because disinfecting wipes can be used on several types of surfaces.
Plastic Dinnerware
When it comes to dishes, you may not want expensive glassware in your dorm room. You also might get tired of buying and filling your waste bins with disposable dishes. Go for a happy medium by getting a set of plastic dinnerware, which are inexpensive, durable, and easy to clean.
Medical Kit
No matter where you live, having a first-aid kit is essential. While you can get a decent kit from pretty much any major retail store, consider making your own kit with the basics (i.e., gauze, bandages, pain reliever, rubbing alcohol, allergy medicine), as well as any particular medications you tend to take from time to time.
Just buy a small, attractive storage bin and fill it with everything you need so that you will be as well prepared as possible.
